That is 10% above the $2,927 average for medium breeds; the Nederlandse Kooikerhondje is the cheapest in the group and the Portuguese Water Dog the dearest.

Food is the largest line at 27%. At 48.8 lb this dog needs about 1,286 kcal a day — roughly 24 lb of kibble a month — so brand and tier matter more than for a smaller dog: $760 to $926 a year across the standard kibbles we priced ($866 at the median), and several times that on fresh food. Insurance is the next line at 25%.
